The Coupon Comeback, with a Web 2.0 Twist
Unless you've been hiding under a rock for the last six months, you may have noticed the economy in the news. Between rising gas prices, falling home sales, stagnant wages and the impending election it's a little tough to avoid the economy issue. In fact, the economy finally tops the list of issues for the 2008 election and we are all trying to find a few ways to make our dollar stretch just a little farther.
Many of us remember Mom paper every week and diligently going through the grocery store adds clipping coupons; save $.50 here and buy 2 get 1 free there. Even though I remember being terribly embarrassed when my mother handed the cashier the fruits of her coupon clipping labor, I find myself in these dark economic times (ok, maybe that's a little dramatic) following her lead and turning to coupons myself. With one exception, I'm a child of the Internet age and only vaguely know what a newspaper even looks like (or vinyl records or cassette tapes for that matter) and I'm of the firm belief that everything that is important in this world can be found on the web. Thus, introducing the online coupon.
Coupons.com (groceries), keycode.com (various non grocery), MyCoupons.com (online stores), dealcatcher (online stores), and dozens more help you save on groceries, clothes, online stores and my personal favorites software and electronics. I may pay full price for my meats and cheeses but rarely will I pay full price for software. I've found deals for Dell, Apple, Amazon, JC Penney, Victoria's Secret and more. (I know I spend a lot of time shopping on the Internet. What do you think I do at work all day?)
Deals abound, and the beauty of getting them online is I don't have to hold up the queue in the express lane when I hand the cashier a stack of coupons, and one of the best parts is, you don't have to deal with newspaper cuts (those hurt) or those black smudge marks on your fingers, pants and couch.
So, start surfing and find some sweet deals from the aforementioned sites, or check out our software and electronics reviews and save on name brands!
